GMH Mortgage Mobile App
Responsibilities: Art Direction, Creative Direction, UX and UI
GMH Mortgage App
1. PROJECT SUMMARY
Develop an application to keep our potential and current borrower’s engaged with GMH and provide
simple access to rate information, costs associated, and individual loan officers.
2. PROBLEMS
1. Borrower’s expecting higher loan amount vs. income
2. Potential borrower’s rely on competitor data for loan information
3. Most first-time borrower’s had no idea how much house they can actually afford.
3. SOLUTIONS
1. Broke down monthly payments to include all costs, not just principal/interest.
2. Provide income input to produce home affordability and give lenders insight to their price range.
3. Provide FAQ section with upfront questions, and access to our loan officers.
Planning/Research
What’s the home buying process look like?
We met with our own loan officers and some of their past borrower’s and retained that the process of buying a house involved:
- Finding the perfect big & fancy house
- Look for and apply for a loan
- Realize you can’t afford the house
With this data, we realized we could easily provide upfront base pricing, to help people avoid falling into this category.
User Interviews
We interviewed both our internal staff and current/past borrowers about their experience with similar applications, and desires for a new version.
Most valuable takeaways from staff:
- Client’s expected higher loan value based on income
- Client’s not educated on loan breakdown
Most valuable takeaways from borrower’s
- Had no idea how much house they could afford
- Not familiar with all costs involved in a purchase
- Not familiar with lender terminology
Design
With all the research and interviewing stages complete, we moved to design. The sliding UI controls and dynamic graphs encourage users to play with their numbers to discover their range of opportunities in home finance.
